Side Hustles and the Internet: Friend or Foe?

In order to make a sustainable living, you would need to do a lot of side hustles. But, if the mere fact that you like doing part time work is what suits you, then this article may not be for you.

Considering that part time work is just that, nothing beats a solid work schedule with health benefits and lunch breaks. You may never get rich with a full time job, or so I’ve been told, but you can definitely add to what you are already getting with a side hustle. This helps to pay the bills.

But what happens when there are so many stories out there of people doing amazing things that are suggesting that you can retire early from your full time job just by doing side hustles and socking away the dough? Who are these folks kidding? Correct me if I’m wrong, but if there are part time jobs that are so easy to get like this, then why aren’t people doing them? Why can’t I get a side hustle that can help me to retire early?

It’s all a form of trickery. Instill in people’s minds that there is an easier way. Get them hooked by using emotional content that snares them in. Most often, those who pitch these easy jobs usually don’t have anyone in particular in mind that they are pitching to. It’s kind of a blanket statement that’s put out onto the internet, and then Google, the engineering feat that it is, peddles that pitch to those who may want to see it based on search patterns, etc. Search Engine Optimization (or SEO as it’s called in the non-tech world) uses keywords to help formulate key phrases on each and every one of us and then placates us by using what they think we want from all that, by putting this information at the top of our favorite social media pages. Chipping away at us, until finally we give in to the idea that maybe we could retire early from our full time jobs, all we have to do is trust that it will make us rich. That is unless you are strong-willed and have no desire to seek it out. Personally, I say it’s all baloney foo-foo.

So, are side hustles good and an avenue along the way to get rich? Possibly, but that depends on you. For those that do the pitching, all of us want information RIGHT now, and so for a fee… well you get the idea. Of course there are a lot of people out there that give you these ways to make the money by doing things like online surveys. Right. But more realistically they make money off of your desire to live a better life by providing you with information for a fee on a specific side hustle that fits “your needs”. It may very well be a side hustle that actually does get you rich, but I’d love to know what that is without having to spend my hard earned money to find out what it is. We all can’t do crossword puzzles all day that pay $0.05/ea.

It may seem like I’m going all over different topics to try and get my point across, but I assure you, everything is all tied together. Of course I could be talking out of my you-know-what. What do I know? People are afraid to try new things, so maybe that might be a reason why people aren’t out there doing a side hustle. Some people just don’t want to work at all. But in the back of all our minds, we all want happiness that comes from being able to live the life of the glamorous folks. Don’t lie. Maybe a side hustle will help you get there.
